UPDATE: We are excited and grateful to announce that the Kickstarter has met and surpassed the first goal of $20,000 and we are on to the stretch goal of $25,000! Thanks to so many of our colleagues and friends the project will happen. We are beginning to start the photo editing and preparations for design and look forward to sharing more. If you haven't visited the page yet the link is here. It expires on August 9 but please contact us if you'd like to be involved later in the process - there are lots of ways to make an impact for children in Syria.
As many of you know, since our founding, the LARC team has donated a portion of our time to do pro bono design on human rights issues. It's been an honor to do so and we are so appreciative that many of you have joined in this effort through the years.
Out of a desire to assist in some way with the challenges faced by the millions of children in Syria who have been directly impacted by the horrific war that has engulfed the region, we have joined the team producing a new book on children of Syria featuring the photography of our friend Bassam Khabieh (one of his most famous images is attached below) which will be used for global advocacy. Acclaimed author Alia Malek will write the introduction, Leslie Thomas will co-produce and co-edit it with collaborator Amy Yenkin and Giorgio Baravalle at de.MO will design it. The humanitarian partner is the incredible Karam Foundation.
Yesterday, to bring this book to life, the team launched a Kickstarter - link here. We are proud to share and would be thrilled if you wanted to send it to friends and family and are grateful for contributions of any size.
If you'd like some background about the crisis - please visit this and this site. In case you'd like to learn a bit more about why we feel this is important for everyone, even above and beyond the human rights challenges faced by these children, you might find this recent article here by my friend Kathleen Kuehnast at the US Institute for Peace of interest.
